Wiener Linien Transit, Salzburg Card & Austrian Regional Guest Cards Guide

How to navigate Vienna's U-Bahn, trams, and buses for €8.00/day, why the Salzburg Card and Innsbruck Card save €30–€60 per person, and how free regional hotel Guest Cards work.

Vienna Transit (Wiener Linien Kernzone 100)

Vienna's integrated network of 5 U-Bahn lines, 28 historic and ultra-low-floor tram (Bim) lines, and city buses operates on an honor system with random plainclothes ticket inspections (€105 on-the-spot fine if you lack a validated ticket):

  • Single Ticket (1 Fahrt Wien): €2.40
  • 24-Hour / 48-Hour / 72-Hour Passes: €8.00 / €14.10 / €17.10
  • 7-Day Digital Pass (7 Tage Wien): €19.70

Remember: Vienna International Airport (VIE) sits outside Kernzone 100. Buy a €4.50 ÖBB ticket (or €2.10 zone extension ticket from Schwechat) rather than riding with only a city pass.

Salzburg Card vs. Innsbruck Card

Unlike many European city passes that require frantic sightseeing, both the Salzburg Card (24h €31–€34 / 48h €40–€44 / 72h €46–€50) and the Innsbruck Card (24h €59 / 48h €69 / 72h €79) include high-value mountain cable cars (the €32 Untersbergbahn in Salzburg and the €47 Nordkettenbahnen + €31.50 Patscherkofelbahn in Innsbruck), meaning they break even on your very first day.
